about

This is The Young Sinclairs' vinyl-only sophomore LP, recorded in the summer of 2009 and released in conjunction with Chimney Sweep Records in 2010. It's 13 songs from the heart, for the heart - on purple vinyl! "Chimeys" (not 'chimneys') is a word created by the band that perfectly describes this fully-realised, highly-refined collection of the band's inimitable brand of chiming 12-string fueled Rock & Roll. The sound quality and strength of the songwriting on this record is astounding in its focus. Hear The Young Sinclairs take it to the next level - put this purple platter on your turntable and go there with 'em!

"The embellishments on the songs are few; the Sinclairs typically stay true to their album title with bright, chiming guitars and lots and lots of hi-hat/tambourine, while the bass sounds warm and expansive. The familiar psychedelic grab bag of effects is used sparingly enough that it still excites, and the overall vibe is one of the evening in late '65 before psychedelia hit. The reverbed vocals are never over the top like a good deal of modern 60s pop imitators, which is fortunate, as these guys are actually quite talented singers and don't need to bury their voices under all that fuzz." - KVRX Radio, Austin, TX

"This Virginia band is all about the jangle, the wistful voices and the unspoken promise that nothing here is going to get too heavy: in a musical sense at least. The words on the other hand, more often than not, come across as a hurt, scarred and heartfelt narrative. It's clear that the warm infectious guitar picking that pushes each track forward in elegant and unobtrusive fashion is nothing more than a distraction: a feel-good decoy drawing your attention from the deep emotional turmoil, or the bitter experiences being spewed out. The circling guitars, rolling rhythms and rounded bass all beat along in time with bands gone by, The Byrds mainly, but others too." - Bowlegs Music

Track Name: Forever After
your heart is keeping all the time
your head is similar to mine
the room is dark, your lantern's broke
you're writing songs inside the smoke

can't you see it makes no sense, it doesn't matter
ease your mind, you can't keep time forever after

you're sucking scraps out of the sink
your pen is running out of ink
the past is back, you're coming home
you're writing words onto the stone
Track Name: Didn't You Baby
I thought I told you not to speak to me
although you want to you should leave me be

you tried to freeze me, didn't you baby?
I won't make that mistake again

now when you see me turn and walk away
I'm not in any mood to talk today

you tried to burn me, didn't you baby?
I won't make that mistake again
Track Name: (I Need You) To Be Strong
you were always talkin', you were too proud to listen
laughin' at me for a while
you've had it bad, but I doubt you're worried
I just wanna see you smile

I need you, I need you, I need you,
I need you to be strong

all the years you want to do alone
songs to show here 'for she's dyin'
please believe I'd never try and turn you
don't belong and don't be mine

I need you, I need you, I need you,
I need you to be strong

I can feel it when I start to dream
Track Name: Kidding Yourself
when you cry the truth is coming from you
when you try and fight it you're only kidding yourself

though I realize you must keep happy
when you were a child your tears were laughing
and I don't think you should be so serious
'cause we all know nothing anyway
Track Name: Kind Of Soul
are you really gonna let her win after all she's done?
she's just another one
are you really gonna take her back after where she's been?
do you see what I mean?

recognize her mystery
if you'll promise this to me
don't be around that kind of soul

are you really gonna speak to her? I can't believe,
you wouldn't let her leave
are you sleeping standing on your feet after all you've done?
you're not the only one
Track Name: Have A Home
we use each other for personal gain
only to leave or still worse to remain
I think I'm playing your game
I seem to be there when moments arrive
we have no memories attached to our lives
except for those in disguise

I need protection from those who try to use me
I don't possess you and still you do this to me
how could it be that you'd never want to have a home

you have to wander to know you can breathe
to be a sender and not to receive
with the greatest of ease
like tools of heaven we cross in our path
the words of treasure you'd said with a laugh
I didn't want to be mad
Track Name: Open One
ageless warriors fallen to the ground
in some deepness that captured every sound
all the drummers gathered 'round
parading through the streets of abandoned towns

grass and apples lightly brush your bones
words unspoken lay deep beneath the stones
all the Earthly shrieking tones
are lifeless in the flight logs of unanswered phones

paisley banshees have called you to your doom
fabric prisons that lock you in your room
all the notes you wrote too soon
you're naked and you're homeless underneath the moon

you've condemned me but that makes you my slave
like the moments when you don't seem so brave
all the gifts you never gave
don't forget to buy your copy of 'No More Graves'
Track Name: Push Down On You
you haven't been amazed with what we've done
but have you ever felt the piercing gaze from everyone

pull you apart, push down on you
yes they do

there's so much to be said, do you agree
I know that we could move ahead if you'd come with me
Track Name: You Can Have Her
you can have her, 'cause she'll only bring you harm
you can love her, but you're just a thing on her arm
you can have her 'cause I know she's gonna drain your waters dry
she doesn't need you she just needs a reason to cry
oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

you can have her, man you wait 'til she rears her ugly head
you can love her, but before too long I bet the love is dead
you can have her 'cause she feels the need to leave everything behind
she doesn't need you she just needs a piece of your mind
oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

you can have her 'cause she feels the need to leave everything behind
she doesn't need you she just needs a piece of your mind
oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Track Name: I'll Get Even
you search for a key and you spy from a tree and you slip along corners between
every note that you smoked was a cough in your throat and a song you tossed in a dream
and who was it on the hearing end, you slip through the woods in fear and then
you finally make it back
in the shadows he can't track, but he's tracing your steps

you keep out of sight like a creep in the night and you sneak along numbers so plain
you're sorry you looked what I wrote in my book but one of us cannot have a name
now you scrape underneath what I use for a seat and the remnants are all you can take
for me to come in and sit right down 'cause he don't want me comin' round and believin'
that the world has been deceivin', can't you see how I'll get even
Track Name: We Spoke Our Minds
people didn't find it acceptable at the time
we spoke our minds, we spoke our minds
you can call it what you wan't I'm lookin' fine
we spoke our minds, we spoke our minds

when I take sick one day and lay my head to rest
the papers all will talk of when I was my best

I'll keep repeating myself all of the time
we spoke our minds, we spoke our minds
you should check out the world it's lookin' fine
we spoke our minds we spoke our minds

will daybreak come tomorrow you'll have to wait your turn
the clock will strike your number your candles cease to burn

we spoke our minds, we spoke our minds
Track Name: I'm Not Sorry
you tried to turn her and yourself against everyone else
a dark cloud full of rain you complain but you don't want to help
what to do, I can't trust you
oh everyone sees through you
you can't be wrong so I don't know what to say
you'll get defensive or something so I'll keep away
where to go, I don't know
oh and I told her so

if I'm not just how you want me to be, I'm not sorry
no pity party thrown for you, I'm not sorry

I don't have all the answers and I'm not perfection myself
but I know how to be a true friend to somebody else
where to go, I don't know
oh and I told you so

if I'm not just how you want me to be, I'm not sorry
no pity party thrown for you, I'm not sorry
and you're not sorry
I'm not sorry
Track Name: Future Man
I'm very smart you know I'm reading all the time
fine art and poetry and slavery and wine
are you impressed with my intelligent today
extract the meaning of a stupid thing to say

future man

digital distraction has become something required
you once felt peaceful but you just thought you were tired
optic limitations have you permanently bummed
drugs and transportation always got you on the run

future man
